Frequently Asked Questions
Is volunteer registration first-come, first-served?
Not necessarily. While most people are placed in their top choice volunteer role, some volunteers may later be moved to a different role as needed. The TSB coordinator reviews all information provided on the registration form to determine the best volunteer placement for the program.
When should I expect to receive my volunteer assignment?
During registration, volunteers indicate the roles in which they would be willing to serve. All efforts will be made to ensure a volunteer is not placed in an unpreferred role. In January, volunteers will receive an email with their tentative assignment. If an assignment changes after this email is sent, the TSB coordinator will reach out via email and phone notifying the volunteer of the change.
I’m interested in being a moderator, but I have never done it before. What should I do?
It is recommended that moderators first start out in the question judge role to observe how the match is conducted.
How old do I have to be to volunteer for TSB?
Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age and able to be unsupervised. A runner is the most suitable volunteer opportunity for minors. Please note: Minors will need to have a consent form signed by a guardian.
Where does TSB take place?
On Friday, we need volunteers at Hilton Knoxville Airport to help with team registration. We also need volunteers at PSCC to help set up the event.
On Saturday, we need volunteers at PSCC Hardin Valley Campus to run the event.
Where can I find more resources about my registered role?
Registered volunteers received an email with a link to the specific details for volunteers. Training is provided for competition room volunteers in person. Video recordings will be posted to the volunteer resource page.
What if I signed up to volunteer, but now, I can no longer help?
Please email Shannon Turner at Shannon.Turner@orau.org as soon as possible so that we can fill your role.
