Eligibility Requirements and Rules
Tennessee Science Bowl (TSB) Eligibility
The Tennessee Science Bowl is open to any public school, private school, or homeschool association in Tennessee.
- Schools may register up to three teams, depending on space availability.
- Homeschool organizations may enter up to two teams per county.
- Team 1 entries from different homeschool associations will be accepted before Team 2 if space is limited.
National Science Bowl (NSB) Eligibility Requirements
These apply only if your team wins the Tennessee Science Bowl and advances to Nationals.
Non‑U.S. Citizen students may participate fully in the Tennessee Science Bowl. However, National Science Bowl security requirements apply for participation in the final three rounds at Nationals:
- A non‑U.S. Citizen student must provide a Social Security number or permanent resident number to compete in the final three NSB rounds if a high‑ranking U.S. official (President, First Lady, Vice President, etc.) attends.
- If this documentation has not been provided, the student may attend Nationals but cannot compete in the final rounds.
- Additionally, if a high‑ranking official attends, any student from a country designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism by the U.S. Department of State cannot attend the final rounds. (See the State Department list for details.)
