Meeting Program Manager: Dr. Andy Schwartz (DOE-BES Program Manager)

The U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office of Basic Energy Sciences will host the Experimental Condensed Matter Physics Principal Investigators’ Meeting at the Hilton Washington DC North/Gaithersburg in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The meeting will begin Monday, September 23, 2013, and will end on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Early registration check-in will be held Sunday, September 22 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to bring together researchers funded by BES in this important research area so that they can get a view of the broad range of research that is being supported by the Experimental Condensed Matter Physics program. While recent research highlights will be presented, the focus of the meeting will be on topics that the PIs feel are the most exciting new research directions. This meeting will be useful to DOE-BES in assessing the state of the program, charting future directions, and identifying programmatic needs. The meeting is not a program review and BES hopes to foster a collegial environment that will stimulate discussion of new ideas and provide unique opportunities to develop or strengthen collaborations among PIs.

Each principal investigator funded by BES is requested to submit one extended abstract in advance of the meeting. Guidelines can be found under Abstract Guidelines. Abstracts should be submitted by e-mail in Word (.doc or .docx) format to ecmp2013@science.doe.gov and ECMP@orise.orau.gov. ABSTRACT DEADLINE: August 21, 2013.

A detailed Agenda of plenary sessions that include research presentations selected from the abstracts, invited talks, and poster sessions will be available at a later date.

The meeting organizers invite each principal investigator (or subtask lead) to prepare a poster with the same title as the abstract to be presented at the meeting. The poster should fit on an 8 feet wide by 4 feet high board. Mounting pins will be provided.

All attendees must register for the meeting under Registration. NOTE: Hotel room reservations will be submitted on your behalf once your registration is received. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: August 26, 2013.
