Description:

The purpose of this workshop is to provide basic level knowledge and skills which impact a manager’s effectiveness in key areas.  The knowledge and skills provided in this workshop link directly to the mission critical functions for supervisors identified in the DOE competency framework.  They also correspond to topic areas that available data indicates managers frequently have difficulty with.
 

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain equal employment opportunity (EEO) in the Federal workplace and the manager’s role.

  • Explain the manager’s role in preventing waste, fraud, and abuse and safeguarding information.

  • Describe the steps for effective performance management.

  • Describe the steps managers take to create a healthy climate for discipline.

  • Explain the manager’s role in the employee assistance program.

  • Explain the manager’s role in labor relations.

  • Explain DOE procurement essentials.

  • Identify the manager’s responsibilities in creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and secure environment for employees.

  • Identify their responsibilities in representing DOE in the public.

This management and supervisory skills class supports recommendation D of the ORO Human Capital Analysis Report and Staffing Plan FY 2008 – 2013.
