Information About Adobe Acrobat 'PDF' files

Files in 'PDF' format are based on the PostScript (TM) page-description language. They appear on-screen at the highest possible resolution and retain their original look and feel -- complete with text, graphics, photos, and color -- on Windows, DOS, Macintosh, or UNIX computers.

To view a file in 'PDF' format you must first install the Adobe Acrobat Reader software. It is available for free for any of the hardware platforms listed above. Once you have installed Acrobat Reader you need to configure your browser to recognize the 'PDF' format and hand the file off to Acrobat Reader to display.  You may choose to contact your computer support staff for assistance.

The following link will take you to Adobe's WWW site, to a page specifically about obtaining Acrobat Reader. Detailed instructions are available from the Adobe site, but the basic steps are as follows:

  1. Download the Acrobat Reader installation software from Adobe,

  2. Install Acrobat Reader by executing the installation software downloaded in the previous step, then

  3. Configure your web browser to recognize the 'PDF' format and execute Acrobat Reader when it encounters a 'PDF' file.

Again, detailed installation instructions are available from the Adobe web site. It's also important to realize that you have to do this only once.
