Who We Are

The Security Awareness Special Interest Group (SASIG) is a peer-to-peer network of Federal and contractor personnel who are actively involved with safeguards and security (S&S) awareness.

Background

The SASIG was organized in 1985 as the Safeguards and Security Training Special Interest Group under the Department of Energy’s Training Resources and Data Exchange (TRADE). In 1987, the SIG was reestablished as the Security Education Special Interest Group (SE SIG) to address the impact of DOE 5631.1A, Security Education Program.

In 2003, the SIG’s name was changed to SASIG to reflect the awareness mission of the Safeguards and Security Awareness Program as expressed in DOE O 470.1 and DOE M 470.1-1. Current directives are DOE O 470.4A and DOE M 470.4-1, Chg. 1.

The SASIG is managed by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) and receives support for its activities from the Office of Health, Safety and Security (HSS), Office of Security Policy, Office of Policy, HS-71.
