Conference Speakers
Dr.
Marilyn Brown is the Deputy Director of ORNL's
Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Program, an applied
R&D program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to
accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable energy
technologies.
Prior to coming to ORNL in 1984, Marilyn was an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Illinois. She has a Ph.D. in geography from the Ohio State University and a masters degree in resource planning from the University of Massachusetts.
Dr. Brown's research at ORNL has examined issues surrounding the commercialization of new energy and environmental technologies and frameworks and methods to evaluate the impacts of government programs. She has authored more than 130 publications and has received awards for her research from the Lockheed Martin Corporation, the Association of American Geographers, the Technology Transfer Society, and the Association of Women in Science. Currently she serves on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Board of Scientific Advisors, the Board of Directors of Home Energy, and the editorial boards of the Journal of Technology Transfer and Applied Geographic Studies.
Dr. Cornelia Gillyard is Associate Professor of Chemistry at Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga.
Dr.
Linda J. (Lee) Magid is Professor of Chemistry at
the University of
Tennessee-Knoxville. Previously a visiting scientist with the
Solid State Division at ORNL, Dr. Magid is currently a member of
the Spallation Neutron Source Steering Committee and serves as
the point of contact between ORNL and UT. She holds a Ph.D. in
chemistry and has had a successful career in both research and
university administration.
Dr.
Liane B. Russell is an ORNL Corporate Fellow, a
member of the National Academy of Science, and a recipient of the
Fermi Award.
Ms.
Barbara Summers is an education program manager in
the ORNL Office of University and Science Education. She has been
the Tennessee state coordinator for the Adventures in
Supercomputing (AiS) since August of 1993. Before coming to ORNL,
she taught math/science/computing at Wartburg Central High School
for 24 years. She received her bachelor's degree in math/science
education from Louisiana State University and a master's degree
from Tennessee Technology University in the area of
administration/supervision and curriculum development. Barbara
presently works as in the area of educational technology.
Ms. Judy Trimble is responsible for R&D Employment at ORNL. She has held several positions in the Human Resources organization and has been responsible for service in staffing, compensation, employee development, and workforce planning. An important and rewarding component of her job involves counseling employees on job opportunities and career development. Ms. Trimble also conducts workshops and seminars on resume preparation, interview skills, and job search strategies. She has been an invited speaker at the DOE Review of Laboratory Programs for Women, four Women in Science and Technology Conferences, the WATTec Conference, and the 1994 Women's History Month Expo.
Ms. Trimble has a B.S. in biology and an M.S. in plant pathology from Virginia Tech. She joined ORNLs Environmental Sciences Division in 1983 and has held several technical and administrative positions including a "developmental assignment" as Technical Assistant to an Associate Laboratory Director. She has participated in ORNLs Mentoring Program as a mentee and a mentor. She is a charter member and Past President of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS)East Tennessee Chapter.
