For ten years, the Women in Science and Technology (WIST) conference has opened doors for young women considering careers in scientific and technical fields by providing them with valuable information, encouragement, and introducing them to successful women professionals.

Sponsored by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), the WIST conference is designed to support and encourage women in the pursuit of degrees and careers in one of the sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related technology fields. More than 2,200 college women and high school seniors—along with their professors and high school teachers—have attended this conference in past years.

Several special events are planned for this year's WIST conference, which will also celebrate ten years of helping young women get a head start on their careers. Highlights will include:

  • Presentations by women who are leaders in their field
  • The Shadow-A-Mentor Program
  • Opportunities to network with women professionals in a variety of scientific and technical areas
  • Valuable advice on starting a job search, managing money, and more

For an overview of last year's conference, please see the 1999 WIST conference summary!
