Housing

Who is eligible for housing?
All participants coming from beyond a 50-mile radius who do not have a local permanent address.

Summer Housing
ORISE will make housing arrangements for all eligible participants in a local apartment complex. If you qualify for housing and it is not available at the time of your appointment, you will receive a housing allowance of $105 per week to help offset the cost of housing. To help you locate housing feel free to review the “Guide to Short Term Housing”.

All students placed in the local apartment complex will be assigned roommates.

Roommates
Each participant will be assigned a roommate and will live in a one, two, or three-bedroom furnished apartment. One bedroom apartments accommodate two students, two bedroom apartments accommodate four students and three bedroom apartments accommodate six students. Roommates will be assigned based on your responses to the “Housing Questionnaire.” Your roommate’s name and contact information will be emailed to you once rooming assignments are made. We encourage you to contact each other before moving to the Oak Ridge/Knoxville area.

What comes with your apartment?
Apartment units are air conditioned and carpeted. Furnishings include drapes or blinds, furniture (twin beds, etc.) refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, linens, small appliances, television, cooking utensils, and dishes. Wal-Mart and Target are nearby, so if you forget anything, you can always purchase it when you get here. Phone and cable hook-ups are available but you will need to make arrangements with the telephone and cable providers to install service. Laundry facilities are also available. The complex even has an outdoor swimming pool and clubhouse that you are welcome to use.

Semester Housing
For semester appointments, ORISE doe not generally arrange housing. However, we will assist you in locating suitable housing. You can start by reviewing the “Guide to Short Term Housing.” If you are eligible for housing, you will receive a weekly housing allowance of $105.
