Applications may be submitted throughout the year, and appointments may begin at any time. The program is open to all qualified U.S. and non-U.S. citizens without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, national origin, handicap, or status as a Vietnam-era veteran or disabled veteran. All of the disciplines represented in current ORNL research and development are appropriate to the Advanced Short-Term Research Opportunity Program. This includes specialties in the biomedical, chemical, computational, economic, engineering, environmental, life, mathematical, physical, and social sciences. (For more information, see the section on “Research Areas at ORNL.”) Due to the different ways that potential applicants learn about the ORNL Advanced Short-Term Research Opportunity Program, the procedure for filling out the application may vary from applicant to applicant.
