52nd Meeting of the Nobel Laureates: The 2002 Trip Report

Getting to Lindau, Germany
June 28-30, 2002

June 28th--Waiting to board the plane in Philadelphia. Still fresh and full of energy!

Above: Jason Stairs and Jim Lightstone at the Muenster in Ulm.  Turkey had just won third place in the World Cup, so a celebration was underway with Turkish flags.

Right: Muenster Ulm reaches into the blue Bavarian sky.  As the highest spire in the world, it has 794 steps to the top.  Gloria Thomas made the trek.

Above: Our bus from Frankfurt to Lindau required a trailer to handle all our luggage.  After struggling with suitcases, backpacks, and garment bags through several airports, we feel certain that many of us will learn to pack lighter on whatever trips we may take in the future!

The U.S. students hosted a networking meeting for approximately 70 students from other countries on Sunday evening. The following countries were among those represented: Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, and Venezuela. The event was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and Oak Ridge Associated Universities. The success of the meeting was obvious from the lively conversation that lasted until after midnight when the hall closed.
