Eligibility
Applicants must be:
Full-time faculty members or full-time students in good standing at an HBCU
U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens
Undergraduate students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Graduate students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Seniors applying as graduate students must include a letter of admission to a graduate school at an accredited HBCU.
Participants in the program receive stipends, which allow them to concentrate on the valuable training, research, and educational opportunities the program provides.
Graduate students: $600/week
Undergraduate students: $500/week
Faculty members: stipends equal to either their monthly university salary or $3,800 per month, whichever is greater (for summer research appointments)
Travel expenses are reimbursed for one round trip from the participant's home or academic institution to the assigned research facility if the distance is greater than 50 miles one way.
Third Tuesday in January.

Participant Requirements and Obligations
Research participants are required to:
Devote full-time to their summer research appointments
Submit a final report of research accomplishments to ORISE
Acknowledge the support of the laboratory and ORISE in research publications
Report to ORISE any publications based on research carried out during the appointments
Provide ORISE with information in follow-up evaluations
Accept the research laboratory's and ORISE's patent and copyright policies and other policies regarding inventions and proprietary data
Furnish proof of coverage under a health insurance plan (health insurance fees are the responsibility of the participants)
The offer and acceptance of a research appointment involves no commitment with regard to future employment on the part of the research participant, the participating laboratories, ORISE, or the NRC. During the appointment, each participant is a member of the professional community of the host laboratory and is subject to the rules and responsibilities of that community.
