EXTRA: Read about it!

The students boarded the MS Stuttgart under blue skies for the 2 ½-hour cruise from Lindau to Mainau. The vessel made one quick stop at a mainland dock to board the Nobel laureates and their families, then sailed west down Lake Constance (Bodensee).

The MS Stuttgart exits Lindau’s harbor enroute to Mainau.

The cruise proved to be another opportunity for the students to sit and talk with the Nobel Laureates. The informal and open setting allowed many students to seek out and talk with Laureates in a relaxed setting. Equally important was the chance to chat with students from other countries who now could be called “friends.”

As the Stuttgart glided into the slip at Mainau, the Countess was on the pier to greet the Laureates and students.

Mainau, home of the Countess, is a magnificent island estate, with expansive, manicured flower gardens, specimen trees and shrubs from all over the world, a greenhouse for palm trees, and a magnificent butterfly house. After a tour of the grounds, the laureates, students, and guests gathered in the in front yard of the Mainau castle for the closing ceremonies.
