Dr. William Phillips (Nobel Prize, 1997) of NIST, gave a presentation on “Cold Atoms, Bose-Einstein Condensates, and Coherent de Broglie Wave Optics.” Judging from the extended applause at the close of his presentation, his talk was well received. Students surround Dr. Phillips after his stimulating talk.

Dr. Douglas Osheroff (Nobel Prize, 1996) from Stanford, USA, presented “Superfluid 3He A to B: An Interesting First Order Phase Transition” to a packed house at the Inselhalle.
