Description:   opportunity to participate in an educational program intended to ensure a diverse and highly talented science and technology human resource base to meet the mission, goals, and objectives of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Discipline(s):   physical, mathematical, computer and information, life, or social sciences, psychology, selected humanities, or engineering

Eligibility:  U.S. Citizens Only. Scholarships are intended for support during your junior and senior years. Fellowships are intended for support to begin during your first or second year of graduate study. See DHS Scholarships and Fellowships for more information.

Participating Universities:  all accredited U.S. colleges and universities

Location(s):   Various locations across U. S. One 10-week off-campus research internship at a DHS-designated facility will be required during the summer after your first academic year on scholarship or fellowship.

Duration:   Fall Term

Additional Duration Information: Scholarship appointments are for up to two years with satisfactory progress; Fellowship appointments are for up to three years with satisfactory progress

Frequency:  annually each fall

Awards made:  approximately 50 new scholarship awards and 50 new fellowship awards

Benefits:  full tuition and fees; scholarships also include a $1,000 per month stipend for nine months and a $5,000 stipend for the internship; fellowships also include a $2,300 per month stipend for twelve months

Funding source(s):  U.S. Department of Homeland Security through an interagency agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy
