The opening talk of the morning session, “The Universe is a Strange Place,” was given by Laureate Frank Wilczek. A engaging round table discussion ensued on the topic of global warming and energy shortfall from the perspectives of Laureates Nicolaas Bloembergen, Paul Crutzen, David Gross, Walter Kohn, Harold Kroto, and Sherwood Rowland. The session was moderated by Professor Astrid Gräslund, Secretary of the Nobel Committee on Chemistry and Professor Wolfgang Lubitz of the Lindau Kuratorium. Additional talks for the morning were presented by Laureates Gűnter Blobel on “Transport into the Nucleus” and by Sir Harold Kroto, whose talk was entitled “2010: A Nanospace Odyssey.” For lunch, several American students met with students from the Ukraine and the Czech Republic at the Hotel Stift. After lunch, students dispersed to one of six different venues for some “up close and personal meetings with the Laureates.
