After the morning session, the American group joined students from the Russian Federation, Brazil, and Hungary for a typical German lunch and more stimulating conversation under the trees on the patio of the Hotel Stift.

In the afternoon, students met with individual laureates in various venues around the island.  Laureates participating in these sessions were: Richard Ernst, Robert Huber, Kary Mullis, Douglas Osheroff, Norman Ramsey, Hamilton Smith, and Eric Wieschaus.

That evening, students convened in the Goldenes Lamm Restaurant for dinner and some close interaction with several Nobel Laureates who were the invited guests of the American delegation.  By the end of the evening, the students had experienced an inspiring evening.  Special guests were Laureate David Gross and his wife Jacqueline Savanti and their daughter Brandi; Laureate Alan MacDiarmid and his wife Gayl Gentile; Laureate Martinus Veltman and his wife Anneke; and Laureate Frank Wilczek and his wife Elizabeth.  Other special guests were Professor Wolfgang Lubitz, a member of the Kuratorium, and his wife Gisela; Dr. John McClure of the U.S. Department of Energy; and Dennis Patton of the University of Arizona.
