CDC's Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention
Distance Learning Series – 2012

The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP), is sponsoring a distance learning series for National Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (NHDSP) staff and public health chronic disease professionals. The distance learning series continues with a webinar on June 4, followed by virtual roundtable discussions.

Vision and Purpose

The vision of the series is to increase awareness and knowledge of NCCDPHP’s four domains:

  • Policy/Environmental Change
  • Health Care Systems Change
  • Clinic-Community Interface
  • Data/Surveillance and Communication of Data Impact for Stakeholders

The purpose is to:

  1. Highlight health care systems change and community interface;
  2. Provide current information on chronic disease priority issues related to heart disease and stroke;
  3. Enhance participants’ knowledge and expertise of NCCDPHP domains with interactive activities and exercises; and
  4. Provide opportunities to virtually share success stories and lessons learned.

Webinar and Virtual Roundtable Details

Webinar sessions will last 90 minutes, and the intended audience includes program managers, policy experts, evaluators, epidemiologists, and others involved in heart disease and stroke prevention in States. Each webinar will conclude with a charge to participants.

The CVH Council will host three 1-hour virtual roundtable discussion groups following each webinar. The discussion groups will be limited to approximately 15 participants who will share information about what States have accomplished or are planning regarding approaches to address clinical preventive services and community linkages. The roundtables are an option to learn and share more about the webinar topic. Individuals should register and attend only one roundtable.

All webinars and roundtables will be conducted using Microsoft Live Meeting. Participants are encouraged to download the windows-based version of the application before joining the webinar to take advantage of the full array of interactive features. Audio participation will be via computer or phone conferencing. Participants will be able to communicate directly with presenters during question/answer periods during the webinars and active discussions with facilitators during the virtual roundtables.
