CDC’s Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Annual Grantee Meeting – 2010

Connecting Communities and Health Care

The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP), sponsored an annual grantee meeting for:

  • National Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (NHDSP)
  • Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for Women Across the Nation (WISEWOMAN)
  • Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Registry (Coverdell)
  • Mississippi Delta Health Collaborative (MDH)

The meeting was held September 13-16, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia Hotel, in Atlanta, Georgia, and provided training opportunities for participants.

Vision and Purpose

The vision for the meeting was to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills of the public health workforce to address heart disease and stroke prevention and control on a national and state level. The purpose was to:

  1. Provide current state-of-the-art information on crosscutting/big picture priority issues related to heart disease and stroke;
  2. Enhance participants' knowledge and expertise to address program priorities through competency-based and skill-building workshops;
  3. Promote synergy among programs and foster networking and collaborative opportunities among participants through roundtables and group discussions;
  4. Orient new program managers and staff to management and strategic planning skills relevant to their cooperative agreement; and
  5. Provide opportunities for collaboration and opportunities to share lessons learned in program-specific meetings and small group consultations.
