Session Objective
The objectives for this session are to:
- Understand the connections between health literacy, health care equity, health disparities, and cultural competence.
- Discuss how grantees and other partners have used in the development of culturally competent interventions to eliminate health disparities.
- Use information from the session to collaborate with partners and develop culturally competent interventions for heart disease and stroke prevention.
Session Summary
This session is designed to give grantees an introduction to the development of culturally competent interventions in heart disease and stroke prevention. Topics include health care equity, health literacy, and health disparities. Strategies to improve cultural competence within multiple priority settings (health care, community, and worksite) are discussed and examples from the field are identified.
