Defining Cardiovascular Health: The AHA’s 2020 Goal The mission of the American Heart Association is building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. In June, the Board of Directors established a new health impact goal: by 2020, AHA will work to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20%. AHA has developed a measurement for overall cardiovascular health, with the help of volunteer leaders. We will discuss the metrics associated with a measure of overall cardiovascular health and how these metrics will drive the development of AHA's 2013 strategic plan. |

How Do States Use DHDSP Products and Services? In 2009, DHDSP conducted an evaluation to examine the ways in which DHDSP translational activities and products have affected the capacity, work behaviors and practices of public health practitioners in state departments of health. Nine states participated in this assessment. This roundtable will provide an overview of the evaluation scope, methodology, and preliminary results. Participants will have an opportunity to react to the findings and provide feedback. |

What Evaluation Tools Do You Need? The Evaluation and Program Effectiveness Team has developed a host of small guides that grantees can use as they develop logic models, plan for evaluation, evaluate partnerships, etc. This roundtable will be an opportunity for grantees to discuss the utility of these guides as well as brainstorm what new guides are needed to assist with evaluation. |

Do You Need Technical Assistance With Your WISEWOMAN Evaluation? WISEWOMAN funded programs were guided through the process of developing an evaluation plan using the CDC Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health. This roundtable will provide programs with the opportunity to receive technical assistance on their evaluation plans or evaluation efforts being undertaken related to the Program. Participants will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on the current evaluation process and evlauation needs. |

Ready or Not, Here They Come! This roundtable will familiarize participants with four upcoming Institute of Medicine (IOM) reports related to cardiovascular disease. These reports, commissioned by CDC, are scheduled for release over the next several months. As they will most likely draw significant media attention, facilitators will share and brainstorm ideas for how states can begin to prepare NOW for media and other inquiries. These releases will be great opportunities to generate media stories and share information tailored to your state’s cardiovascular burden, programs, and policy needs. Plans for what resources you can expect from CDC and the CVH Council to support your efforts will also be discussed. |

DHDSP’s Stroke Workgroup The DHDSP Stroke Work Group was formed last year to provide resources internally and externally on stroke, and to provide a catalog of stroke related projects within the Division to better inform staff of the Division’s stroke portfolio. This roundtable will be an opportunity for grantees to discuss the utility of the semi-annual stroke bibliography and brainstorm ways for the Stroke Work Group to provide other stroke resources to grantees. |

Partnering to Ensure WISEWOMAN Participants Have Access to Needed Treatment Participants will discuss strategies that have worked to ensure referral processes that lead to WISEWOMAN participants being linked to health care providers who are able to diagnose and treat the indigent population. Participants can discuss how to develop partnerships with other programs (e.g., State HDSP Program) to impact systems changes so WISEWOMAN participants receive needed treatment since WISEWOMAN funds cannot be used to pay for treatment. Participants can also discuss strategies for addressing barriers to access to treatment. Staff from the Missouri HDSP State and WISEWOMAN Programs will share their progress on a joint intervention to improve access to care. Handouts |
