Session Objective

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to describe specific ways in which the state WISEWOMAN program and state Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (HDSP) program can work together to address the HDSP priorities.

Supporting Skills and Knowledge

  • Explain how the WISEWOMAN program can assist HDSP in reaching disparate populations.
  • Explain how the WISEWOMAN program can assist HDSP Program in maintaining their cultural competency and relevancy.
  • Explain how the WISEWOMAN program can help state coalitions stay mindful of the need for diversity amongst their members.
  • Describe how program integration between the state HDSP program and state WISEWOMAN program can save resources.

Activity

Working together in small groups the WISEWOMAN and HDSP participants will develop an outline for a media campaign around one of the HDSP priority areas targeting a disparate population. They will be given guidelines that will emphasize the strengths of each of the programs and take advantage of the common goal yet different focus of each of the programs.

Session Summary

In this session, the Alaska state HDPS coordinator and the Alaska state WISEWOMAN director will describe collaborative efforts between the two programs that have led to concrete products such as media campaigns. The session will also discuss how the programs have shared and borrowed from each other to meet the goals of each of their own programs.
