Session Objective
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to identify action steps to improve their states’ emergency medical response to acute cardiac and stroke events.

- Use the IOM report The Future of Emergency Care in the United States Health System to guide collaboration with EMS.
- Describe EMS stakeholders and varying models of EMS organization.
- Identify ways to use components of EMS systems to bring about improvements in systems of acute cardiac and stroke care.
Activity
Participants will be given varying scenarios of EMS system structures and asked to develop emergency response strategies based on their respective scenario.
Session Summary
Building on information presented in the EMS plenary, this session will focus on state strategies to enhance emergency response for acute cardiac and stroke events. Participants will explore strategy options based on various state EMS structures and policies. State collaboration with EMS will be highlighted. Prehospital Emergency Response Systems: Guidance for State Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program will be distributed.
