Objective/Supporting Skills and Knowledge

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify available data sets and sources for defining the cardiovascular disease burden
  • Access available data for burden document description
  • Identify the most relevant data sets from the available sources
  • Identify CDC resources and points of contact for information
  • Describe the contents of the Chronic Disease Indicators (under development) website
  • Explain how to use functions of the Chronic Disease Indicators system and its linked data sources
  • Identify when to involve stakeholders in data identification utilization and dissemination

Summary

This workshop will help program managers to effectively use data available at three levels (national, state, and county) to support the development of state Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention programs. The data available from the Chronic Disease Indicators system will be reviewed and a discussion held on its most efficient and effective use. The workshop will also include a presentation on the process that Nebraska used to create its burden document and a presentation on how Maine used county-level data to develop fact sheets in support of the Maine Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program.
