Evaluating Capacity Building Activities

Objective/Supporting Skills and Knowledge

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the components of a SMART objective
  • Develop SMART objectives for CB activities
  • Understand the steps in developing an evaluation plan
  • Develop evaluation questions for three of the CB activities
  • Develop an evaluation plan for CB activities

Summary

This session will provide an overview of the steps to developing an evaluation plan, with emphasis on evaluating capacity building activities. Participants will learn how to write SMART objectives, develop evaluation questions, and plan an evaluation of their partnerships, state plans and training activities. Participants will discuss how to develop evaluation questions, and appropriate data sources and collection methods to answer those questions. The session will provide a hands-on exercise where participants will develop a draft evaluation plan of one of their CB activities. Session leaders will work with participants to finalize their evaluation plans.
