Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify community assets and resources for in-kind and financial support
  • Describe appropriate community partners for this campaign
  • List the factors to be considered for assessing project feasibility
  • List the steps for developing a systems change supported by a health education intervention
  • Describe appropriate evaluation methods for this systems change

Summary

This session will provide an overview of the steps needed to develop a sustainable comprehensive educational campaign for stroke recognition and awareness. The background for the Massachusetts stroke education systems change will be reviewed and the development process for the intervention discussed. Participants will learn the factors to consider when assessing the feasibility of a project of this nature, how to utilize existing community assets and resources, and how to recruit partners using a win-win approach. In addition, data collection and program evaluation for the Massachusetts system change will be discussed and a health education animation product, which will be used in radio and television, will be shown. Future next steps for the Massachusetts project will be shared.
