Installing Exercise Builder 2008
Exercise Builder must be installed on your system before use. This page provides step-by-step instructions for the installation process.
Please be patient with this install process. It may take longer than average because some required components may need to be installed at this time if they have not been previously installed on your computer. The complete installation can take up to five minutes.
Installing Exercise Builder on your PC
Note: You must have Administrator Permissions on your computer to complete the installation.
The installation is a two-step process. The first step is to install system components that will be used by Exercise Builder (the Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine® [Exercise Builder Database] and a .Net Framework if not already installed on your computer). The setup program will determine if the programs are needed and will install them for you.
Note: Exercise Builder requires the Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Package. If the computer you are attempting to use does not have it, the following message will be displayed before the Exercise Builder Setup menu is displayed.
The screen that is displayed may not look exactly like the one below. If prompted to install .NET Framework, click Yes and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: The following message may be displayed after the Exercise Builder Prerequisites have installed.
Click "No" and restart your computer manually after you have completed the Exercise Builder installation. If you accidentally click "Yes" after your computer has restarted, open and then close your CD drive door with the installation disk in the drive. The Installation program will continue where it left off.

Your Web browser will open to a "Computer Settings Guide" web page. Use the "Computer Settings Guide" to ensure your computer has the needed software, plug-ins, and correct settings. A link to these Installation instructions is located at the bottom of this guide.
After you have completed reviewing the Computer Settings Guide information, close the browser and the first window of the installation program should already be displayed.
Before installing the Exercise Builder application, you must first install the Exercise Builder Database (ORISE_EPDS_2008). Click the OK button to install the database.
The Exercise Builder Database will begin installing. This may take a few minutes. When it has completed installing, the first window of the InstallShield Wizard for installing Exercise Builder will appear.
Click the Next > button.
Click the Install button to begin installing Exercise Builder.
Exercise Builder will begin to install. Please wait for the process to be completed. It may take several minutes.
When the installation process is completed, the Create Database Users window will appear. If you are installing Exercise Builder for yourself with the same network username you will be using to run the software, simply click the OK button. Your network username, by default, will be granted access to the Exercise Builder Database and the final window of the installation process will appear.
If other users will be using Exercise Builder on this computer with a different username than the one which was used to install the program, those usernames must be added to the Exercise Builder Database.
To add other users to the Exercise Builder Database:
Enter your network domain name followed by a back slash ( \ ) and the username (domain\username) of additional users who will be using Exercise Builder on this computer.
Click the Add User button. The new username will appear in the large window underneath the text box.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 until all additional users are added to the large window.
Click the OK button, and the additional users will be granted access to the Exercise Builder Database. The final window of the installation process will appear.
The illustration below shows how the Create Database Users window should appear after two users have been added.
The Exercise Builder installation is now complete. Click the Finish button to exit the installation program. If you did not restart your computer prior to step 1, restart your computer now.
Finally, you can remove the CD-Rom from the CD drive. It is not necessary to keep it in the disc drive as you use Exercise Builder. Close this window before removing the CD-Rom.
To start the program, double-click on the Exercise Builder icon located on your desktop.
