Meeting Organizer: Andy Schwartz, DOE/BES Program Manager

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Basic Energy Sciences will host the inaugural Experimental Condensed Matter Physics Principal Investigators Meeting at the Hilton Executive Meeting Center in Rockville, Maryland. The meeting will begin with registration and an evening session on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, and will end at approximately noon on Friday, August 12, 2011.

The purpose of the meeting is to bring together researchers funded by BES in this important research area so that they can get a view of the broad range of research that is being supported by the Experimental Condensed Matter Physics program. While recent research highlights will be presented, the focus of the meeting will be on topics that the PIs feel are the most exciting new research directions. This meeting will be useful to DOE-BES in assessing the state of the program, charting future directions, and identifying programmatic needs. The meeting is not a program review and BES hopes to foster a collegial environment that will stimulate discussion of new ideas and provide unique opportunities to develop or strengthen collaborations among PIs.

Each principal investigator funded by BES is requested to submit one extended abstract in advance of the meeting. Guidelines can be found under Abstract Guidelines. Abstracts should be sent by email to ECMP@orise.orau.gov. ABSTRACT DEADLINE: July 15, 2011.

A detailed Agenda is now available.

All attendees must register for the meeting under Registration. Hotel room reservations will be handled through this site as well. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: July 15, 2011.
