Award Description
Those selected to participate in the TSL Visiting Scientist Program will not enter into an employee/employer
relationship with DHS, TSL, ORISE, or DOE. Participants are engaged in a research and educational experience. They
are administratively-affiliated with ORISE, who will administer each award, including any payments made to the
participant as authorized by TSL.

Length of Appointment
Typically appointments are for 12 months. Appointments may be renewed for up to five years contingent upon satisfactory
performance, type of appointment and availability of funds.
Obligations
- Appointments typically involve a full-time commitment to the assigned research project at TSL or at designated collaborating
institutions as deemed necessary by TSL scientific staff. There may also be opportunities for part-time research appointments.
- Participants must avoid
obligations that will interrupt their research during their tenure. The participant’s research must be conducted
in a manner and according to a time schedule that meets the overall research needs of TSL.
- As guest researchers, participants are expected to conform to all TSL facility policies relevant to his/her status.
- Participants are required to submit to TSL a final report including an abstract of the research conducted during the
appointment. All published reports, journal articles, or professional presentations that rely on the research conducted
during the appointment must be approved by TSL and acknowledge this research appointment and support by TSL. Specific
language will be provided at the start of the appointment.
