Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management

“The Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management” addresses the subject of decommissioning as well as that of spent fuel management and other radioactive waste management activities. The IAEA administers this Joint Convention which entered into force in 2001 with a signatory countries Review Meeting on the activities of each nation in the subject area slated to be held every three years. The first two meetings occurred in 2003 and 2006. The 3rd meeting was just held in May 2009. There are now a total of 45 contracting parties to the Joint Convention - at this most recent meeting a total of 23 nations prepared reports and publicly made these available and these are posted at the IAEA web site.
