Program
Purpose
CDCynergy
is an interactive training and decision-support tool. It is
designed to help Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) staff and public health professionals systematically plan
communication programs within a health context. It allows users
to assemble the pieces of a health communication plan systematically
by answering questions in a specific sequence.
The
National Center for Health Marketing (NCHM) health communication
staff at CDC assist CDC program managers to develop health communication
programs and research. When resources allow, CDC works with organizations
outside of CDC to diffuse our best practices in health communication
through CDCynergy training workshops. Often this is done in partnership
with specific CDC program areas, for example, CDC's Cardiovascular
Disease Prevention Program.

The
CDCynergy Process Model
The
CDCynergy model does not assume that communication is the solution
to a public health problem. Rather, the CDCynergy tool guides
you through a process in which you:
- Use research to help describe and determine the causes of
the health problem that you plan to address with an intervention,
and to define the audience segments affected by the problem
- Explore
a wide range of possible strategies for the health problem
- Systematically
select the strategies that show the most promise to help
the audiences
- Understand
the role communication can play in planning, implementing,
and evaluating selected strategies
- Develop
a comprehensive communication plan that includes audience
research, pretesting, production, launch, and evaluation
at every stage.
