The Bat Excursion at Oak Ridge
High School

On Tuesday, we were split into groups, with group A going on the bat excursion and group B staying back at the hotel. The bat excursion was an interesting little trip to a local high school where about fifty bats were residing. There, we met Warren Webb, a local scientist that was very knowledgeable about bats. He told us about special equipment he uses, some facts about bats, and also some stories from his past experiences. He said to watch a loose bricks because that is where they come out each night around 9:00 pm. Then, right on time the bats started coming out to feed.We were there for a while with bats coming and going all around. We counted around 45 different bats. After a few minutes it was all over we went back to the hotel. The other group will view the bats on Thursday.
