There is great interest in studying the East Fork Ridge Mesic Forest because there is evidence that some of the forest is old growth having never been logged. Old growth forest has nearly vanished from the Ridge and Valley Province of Tennessee.
ARC participants spent about seven mornings taking data in the forest area. Their afternoons were
spent studying the literature on old growth, working in the herbarium, summarizing the data they collect and other activities.
