The U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office of Basic Energy Sciences will hold its annual Research Meeting of the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Sciences (AMOS) Program at the Airlie Conference Center in Warrenton, Virginia. The meeting will begin with a reception and dinner at 6 pm on Sunday, September 10, continue with formal sessions starting on Monday morning, September 11, and conclude with lunch at noon on Wednesday, September 13.
This year we will continue our tradition of inviting distinguished plenary speakers. We are delighted that Ned Sauthoff from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Daren Stotler from the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory will join us to speak about the ITER project and related scientific challenges.
The meeting will be devoted to formal presentations on recently completed work, research in progress, and future plans by approximately one third of the contractors and grantees supported by the BES AMOS Program. Portions of Monday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon will be free time intended to encourage informal discussions among principal investigators. The annual AMOS Research Meetings facilitate understanding of the programmatic goals of the DOE and BES, enhance the alignment of fundamental research efforts with these goals, and foster new approaches and collaborations among the meeting participants.
Proceedings of previous AMOS research meetings are posted at http://www.sc.doe.gov/bes/chm/Publications/publications.html
