Dr. William (Bill) Phillips (Nobel Prize, 1997), who this year brought three of his own participants from NIST, won his Nobel Prize (along with Steven Chu, and French physicist Claude Cohen-Tannoudji) for his research on “methods of cooling and trapping atoms by means of laser light.” Judging by the close attention paid by those sitting at his table, Dr. Phillips provided an interesting and informative evening.

Dr. Brian David Josephson (Nobel Prize, 1973) from Cambridge University in England; invited several participants to explore topics of quantum physics.

Roland Hirsch discusses a variety of topics with DOE/ORAU participants at dinner. Dr. Wolfgang Wiese, NIST, joined the group for dinner.
